MIKEY MURKA
Mikey started his career back in 1983 with the legendary Unity Sound System in
London. Continually rocking the dancehalls then and being a competitor with
Skaka's
sound the whole thing grew until Rib, the man behind Unity, finally started
to
produce own tracks. Thus the absolutely unique Unity sound was created, mostly
digital smashers simply done with Casio keyboards and SynDrums, the energetic and
easy
vocal style
of the sound system crew all over the place. Mikey scored a few
hits
then, like the brilliant 'We Try' or 'Ride Pon The Riddim' which reached no. 3
in
the
Reggae charts, and many more. To get an impression of those huge tunes and
unmistakable style you should definitely check the 'Watch How The People Dancing:
Unity Sounds From The London Dancehall 1986-89'
2LP on Honest Jon's, collecting
many classics that are in the same league with the
best of Jammy$ or Tubby's
digital tracks. A must!
After a his alltime Jahtari hit "Sensi Addict", a blasting appearance on Mungo’s
Mary Jane Riddim, a great album and the killer "WAR"-10" on Reality Shock Mikey
is well and truly Back on the
Scene Again.
His Jahtari EP however, is his finest
work to date and returns to his "Ride pon
the Riddim" style. Everyone of these
tunes
are killers, no fillers! 2008 is going to be a big year for
Mikey and these
10”s
are prime example of this mans talent as one of the UK’s finest Singjays.
