UK DIGI DUB ROOTS - WARRIOR STANCE - UNITY SOUNDS

by PETE MURDER TONE

The digital roots sound in the UK really started with JAH SHAKA who always
played strictly conscious music, never swayed during the ragga era. He
occasionally used drum machines and synths in his earlier roots steppers
records just for reasons of economy. But when DREAD & FRED came to him
with fully digital stuff in the mid 80s he played it and it went down huge.

Shaka then started doing similar kinds of records which all inspired the next
wave of UK dub like Manasseh, Disciples, Alpha & Omega, etc. While the original
folks had no choice but to sound pretty digi/machinelike due to the gear now
its a definite aesthetic choice, ie using drum machine style beats, synth brass
etc.
