PRINCE RISER
With a musical taste shaped by years of exclusively listening to Jamaican 60’s-90’s music, Prince Riser started his musical career in the sound system scene in Volgograd / Russia back in 2014 and since then produces riddims and dubs, mostly inspired by the digital dancehall style of the 80’s.
After establishing a netlabel by the name of “Sufferers Ocean” he started to release his first riddims and dub mixes and to collaborate with various singers and musicians, both from the local Russian dancehall / reggae scene (such as Bookah, Ranking Choora, Vanchitus) and worldwide (such as Sammy Gold, Jahmeake Ma-Thoth, Madi Simmons).
Carefully studying and exploring the sound of the golden era of digital reggae, Prince Riser has gathered a solid collection of digital vintage gear throughout the years, including 80’s synthesizers, drum machines, tape decks and reel-to-reel machines. This shaped his production and made it sound remarkably close to the sources of Riser’s inspiration.
By the end of 2019 Prince Riser had released several albums and numerous singles, including vinyl editions and dubplates, appeared on various web-media and had been featured in various online publications. At the same time, he quit the local scene and decided to focus on the studio work.
Washed outside of his homeland by the tides of war, in 2020 he established a new label called “Cossack”. Since then Prince Riser continues to collaborate with various artists from around the world and produces new music.
