PETE MURDER TONE ---------------------------- (Pete)
My first loves were HipHop, early House and all-night raving. But hearing early
digital dancehall for the first time (on tapes from NYC radio station WBLS brought
back by a mate) got me hooked on Reggae. I played records on radio and in clubs and
worked in a record shop for a few years after that.
I started teaching myself how to build reggae rhythms in early '04, using a
computer, a few old drum machines and Casio keyboards. Though I love all eras of
Jamaican music I seem to be most influenced by the mid-80s to early-90s
"computerized" dancehall (Jammy$, Firehouse Crew, Unity, Ujama, Steely & Clevie and
so on) and early UK roots/digidub (folks like Shaka, Dread & Fred, Blackamix, Keety
Roots, Disciples etc).
By day I work as a social worker, teacher and researcher, mainly with ex-prisoners.
I’m moving to the UK in ’06 where I plan to put together a book of interviews with
some of the pioneers of digital reggae in the UK.
Stay tuned for more upcoming music with that very special CASIO flava!
