Roger Robinson’s “Dog Heart City” out on limited vinyl LP

“New Maps” video by Roger Robinson

Hot off the press comes the vinyl version of Roger Robinson‘s epic “Dog Heart City“, originally out last January on (now hard to find) cassette.

Re-mastered and cut by Pole for extra analogue goodness and coming with hand-drawn cover art by Kiki Hitomi, this crucial document of the Brexit era shouldn’t miss in any collectors crate.

After his highly acclaimed album “Dis Side Ah TownRoger Robinson returns with a reel full of new tales about survival in a Dog Heart City. These stories, delivered in Robinson’s full vocal spectrum between low-end dub poetry tremors and haunting falsetto singing, are trying to make the invisible lives visible: giving people affected by gentrification, racism, unemployment and low wage work a sense of authority and aesthetic nobility.

Each song on this tape became a story in that city, while the tape itself is like the city holding these stories. “Nightshifttells about the workers who clean the buildings where power is held, and the contrast between their lives and where they clean. “Flowers” comments on the rate of young black men getting killed, where another victim dies even before the last mourning flowers have dried. There are stories about tower block life, the claiming of a postcode or how the city wears a Swastika like a proud badge in Post-Brexit UK.

This beautiful cassette collects a pile of special riddim cuts from the Jahtari vaults, from re-edited classics by Bo Marley, unreleased gems by John Frum, to completely new experiments, all lovingly dubbed live and soaked in analogue goodness.

Stunning hand-painted cover art by Kiki Hitomi.

Klaus Wunderlich meets King Tubby on this spaced out living room jam by the Gl. Harlev Organ Orchestra, three seasoned veteran musicians from the Danish underground (Bo Marley, Analogik, 100% Max Akwaaba).

The tracks, all one-take recordings done with just an old Technics organ, mutate through the various presets from the built in drum machine – tango? bossa? – while getting soaked in tape delays and subtle flute or guitar overdubs, driven by the surprisingly heavy basslines coming from the old organ speakers.

Playing the organ turned out to be a three men job: Benjamin Lesak on the two-layer keyboard, Kristian Nordenthoft kneeling on the floor to operate the bass pedals by hand, while Jesper Kobberoe took care of the beats. Recorded live with only a simple microfon this document captures everything, from pure vibes to problems with a runny nose.

This re-issue of a lost gem from 2009 (as ‘Bare Spil Noget Orgel‘ on Route 66) shows what can be done in just one day: you can make a whole record (including cover art)!

Re-issue of the highly collectable Bo Marley tape from 2009, seeing the Gl. Harlev homeboys once again power up their Chariot Of Fire (aka. the Bo mobil) to drop a floor-devastating cassette that effortlessly rolls up electrifying beats, short-wired robo-funk and a voltage drenched low-rider bass into one genre-defying reel of heavy goodness.

The patented Bo space-lyrics in German/Danish warp mode are again dealing with the big timeless themes of our age: rocking it on stage (Wir Setzt Den Trend), rolling along with the Bo mobil (Rollen Vorbei), the joys of driving a scooter (Mofa Fahren) and Robot Cars (“with volt power – yeah!”).

Watch out for the extended space funk instrumentals!

The 18-track Bo Marley vs. disrupt masterpiece from 2009! A concept album filled up to its plastic rim with the craziest hit tunes, puzzling fun lyrics, Space Echo madness, overheated analog gear basslines, AMIGA tracker niceness and flashing, detail-packed dub from beginning till end.

It works like this: each one of the six Bo Marley hits gets a funky AMIGA tracker intro – check the new drift every riddim gets here! – and is followed up by a dub version by disrupt, always aiming for a new angle on the tunes.

The two big Bo Marley hits “Bauhelm” and “Fleisch” along with two of the heaviest disrupt dubs to date on one fat 12″.

This 12″, also containing the funky Amiga-tracker-intros to the tunes, foreshadows the brilliant album “Bo Marley vs. disrupt” that’s to follow shortly on CD. The Dubs by disrupt on this vinyl are exclusive and very different from the CD versions.
