Hot off the press comes the vinyl version of Roger Robinson‘s epic “Dog Heart City“, originally out last January on (now hard to find) cassette.

Re-mastered and cut by Pole for extra analogue goodness and coming with hand-drawn cover art by Kiki Hitomi, this crucial document of the Brexit era shouldn’t miss in any collectors crate.

WaqWaq [pron.: Wa-Ku Wa-Ku], Definition: to flutter or fly.

Shinsekai = New World, refers to the periphery of severe poverty and destitution in Osaka, Japan. Called Nishinari-ku it is home to many beautiful people.

Next level sounds coming from the Science Ninja Team WaqWaq Kingdom, re-charting dub territory as we know it with their highly addictive post-tribal epic Shinsekai (“New World”).

Driven by the trimba (a percussion instrument developed and mastered by Moondog) of Andrea Belfi  (Nils Frahm, Nonkeen, Mike Watt) ––  the ethereal voice of Kiki Hitomi (King Midas, Black Chow) is twisting through a fog of swirling arpeggiators and polyrhythmic textures, all brought together beautifully by bass- and mayhem expert Shigeru Ishihara (DJ Scotch Egg, Seefeel).

‘Shinsekai’ develops its very own language as each of the hypnotic tracks meanders through different stages of deepness and tension, evolving into the bigger picture of an album with a dazzling amount of intrinsic details.

Stunning artwork by Simon Fowler (Sunn O))), The Bug and many more), done in Hanga / relief printing style. Guest vocals on “Step Into The World” by Kathy Alberici. Mastered and cut for extra heaviness by Pole / Scapemastering Berlin.

WaqWaq Kingdom is a Japanese tribal bass duo, consisting of Kiki Hitomi and Shigeru Ishihara. Both are originally from Japan, lived in the U.K. for over a decade and are now based in Leipzig and Berlin.

Their genre- and time bending sound is like a psychedelic Nabe hot pot: melting Japanese traditional style Minyo with Jamaican dancehall, footwork, dub, techno, tribal polyrhythms and Super Nintendo soundtracks.

The lyrics and visuals are drawing a deep influence from ancient Shinto mythology and the Japanese “Matsuri” festivals that honor the local gods, “Kami-sama”.

WaqWaq Kingdom’s hypnotic and shamanic live performances are an intense time warp experience that re-connect their animistic roots with the future of urban neon colors.

Shigeru Ishihara is mostly knows as breakcore-gameboy legend DJ Scotch Egg, but also for playing bass in Seefeel (Warp Records), the  Devilman project and Small But Hard Records.

Kiki Hitomi is the singer/songwriter from bass explorers King Midas Sound (Ninja Tune), Black Chow, the Japanese Dubstep noise duo Dokkebi Q and the NoinoNoinoNoino project. Her highly acclaimed solo debut album “Karma No Kusari” appeared on Jahtari in 2016.

NoinoNoinoNoino “8” tape out on Caoutchou Records

Watch out for Kiki Hitomi‘s side project NoinoNoinoNoino! Caoutchou Records just released their album “8” on a fantastic looking limited tape edition. If you’re into the dense atmopshere of 1960s Japanese New Wave Cinema and movies like “Suna No Onna / Woman Of The Dunes” the post apycalyptic dubs on this haunting cassette are for you. Some ideas in there later found their way into songs on Kiki Hitomi’s LP “Karma No Kusari“, so listen closely!
